UPDATE 11:38AM: The occupant of the Rand Avenue apartment unit was taken to Renown Medical Center for injuries, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. The man was smoking while on oxygen and there was an ignition. The man’s injuries are unknown at this time. The fire was contained to one unit and there was no extension to any other unit and there were no other injuries.

UPDATE 11:03AM: Carson City Fire Department firefighters have knocked down the structure fire and some units have been released. The cause is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies were called Wednesday morning to a structure fire at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Rand Avenue.
According to dispatch, an occupant of an apartment who is on oxygen reported a fire with flames in his apartment just before 10:40 a.m. There are several apartment residents in the complex. Evacuations are in progress. Multiple fire engines have responded.
Motorists should avoid the area to allow for fire engine access. Traffic control is underway at Rand and Long streets.
