Battery, obstruction from cigarette-related bar fight

A 32-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for battery and obstruction after allegedly getting into an argument at a bar about cigarettes and punching a bartender in the face.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a bar on E. Telegraph just before midnight Wednesday night on report of a battery.

Upon arrival, they met with a bartender who stated the woman had been sitting at the bar arguing with another bar patron about cigarettes.

The bartender said she walked up to the woman and told her she needed to leave, at which point she punched the bartender in the face.

The bartender said she and the woman “began fighting inside the bar,” before the woman finally left  on foot and the bartender called dispatch.

Deputies stated they could see a red, bruised mark beneath her eye, which she confirmed was from the woman punching her with a closed fist.

Deputies searched the area and located a woman matching the description near the Nugget. The reporting party said they called out the woman’s name, and she looked, then continued to walk away.

Deputies ordered her to stop, and she finally did. They asked if the name they’d called was hers, and she said no. They asked if she’d been involved in a fight at the bar, and she also said no.

Deputies told her that she matched the description, and had been pointed out by staff, but she “continued to state that nothing happened over there.” They asked for her ID, which confirmed her to be the individual they were searching for.

She was taken into custody for battery, and obstruction for providing a false name.

The reporting deputy stated that when she was detained, they initially had not placed her into handcuffs. However, when they were explaining she was going to be cited for battery, she “continued to ask why, and was currently on the phone talking to someone else when I was explaining the citation,” according to the report.

They stated she was “highly intoxicated” and uncooperative. They asked how long until her “ride” arrived, and she said 45 minutes. She then asked deputies to give her a ride home, and when they asked where she lived, she said that “we have her ID but would not tell us.” She said she did not have money for a cab, and when deputies asked her for her phone number for the citation, “she continued to ask why, but finally provided it.”

Deputies said she had abrasions to her knuckles and a red mark on her cheek, but refused to allow deputies to take photos.

Just after midnight, deputies finally took her into custody, placed her in handcuffs and escorted her to the patrol vehicle. She continuously called one sergeant on scene a “bitch,” and refused to cooperate with a preliminary breath test.

She was transported to the hospital for medical clearance, where she “woudl not allow me to place the handcuffs in the front for medical staff to get a blood pressure reading.” She was eventually cleared, and transported to the Carson City Jail for battery and obstruction.

Bail: $1,549

Drug trafficking

A 37-year-old San Bernardino, Calif. woman was transported to Carson City on multiple felony warrants relating to drug trafficking.

According to the arrest report, Mayra Lizbeth Gonzalez was taken into custody by TRI-NET Task Force Officers at the Reno International Transport after being arrested and transported from out of state on the Carson City warrants.

She was charged with three felony drug-related charges, including “open or maintain place for sale, gift or use of controlled substances,” possession of a controlled substance, and a drug trafficking charge.

While the narrative is brief in the arrest report due to it being a warrant transport rather than an arrest made by Carson City deputies, the first charge is unusual but often related to controlling a residence or business where drug-related crimes occur in high frequency. This is in contrast to an individual charged with using drugs in their home which functions as a primary residence.

She was released to the Carson City Jail on a bondable bail of $10,000.

Battery, domestic abuse

A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 400 block of Hot Springs Road for battery and domestic battery, first offense Thursday night.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched on reports of a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, deputies could hear screaming and yelling coming from inside the residence.

The reporting deputy said that as they approached, they could see three individuals inside the residence through the window. The deputy wrote that as they were about to announce themselves, they watched the man reach over and strike one of the individuals in the faces with his left palm, stating: “I heard an audible slap and observed [redacted] immediately turn away while holding his face with a shocked look.”

The deputy said they yelled stop and flashed their flashlight at the man, then entered the residence. The man immediately retreated to his bedroom, they wrote, and sat on the bed.

Dispatch had advised there were guns in the home, though it was believed they were locked away. However, they said due to not knowing where the firearms were, they placed the man in handcuffs and took him to the patrol car.

The deputy went back inside and spoke with the other two individuals, who said the argument had started over the man parking in the wrong parking spot outside.

The woman on scene said that the man had battered her days earlier, and the deputy observed multiple bruises on her face and body, including a “softball-sized bruise” on her shoulder.

The man was arrested for one count of domestic battery and one count of battery and transported to the Carson City Jail.

Bail: $3,137

Drug possession

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested just after midnight on Friday in the 220 block of Fairview Drive for possession of drugs.

According to the arrest report, a SET detective in an unmarked vehicle was driving in the Chef Store/PetSmart parking lot when they saw a vehicle parked with its headlights on despite the stores being closed. They said they observed the passenger in the car “looking at his lap.”

The detective wrote he pulled up next to the vehicle and rolled their window down halfway and asked what was going on. The driver stated he was giving the passenger a ride “because it was cold outside.”

The detective said they asked the passenger for his name, and he said “Wilson, like the volleyball.”

The detective rolled the window down all the way “so the passenger could see that I was a law enforcement officer,” according to the report, and asked for his name again, at which point he provided it. However, he gave two different birthdates when asked.

“Based on the deceptive behavior,” the detective stated they asked the passenger to exit the vehicle, and conducted a search of his person. The passenger said he “had something on him,” and admitted to possessing methamphetamine in his right pocket.

He was arrested and transported to the hospital for medical clearance before being released to the Carson City jail.

Bail: $2,500

Drug possession

A 42-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 4000 block of S. Curry Street after deputies were dispatched on a report of a man “passed out” in his vehicle in the movie theater parking lot at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to the arrest report, it took deputies several attempts of knocking hard on the window to wake the man up.

When he did finally wake up, he continued to reach for his waist several times. Deputies asked him to step out, and searched his person without issue. They asked if they could search his vehicle, and he declined.

Deputy K9 Dakota was dispatched, and conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle, resulting in a positive alert. Inside the vehicle, deputies located a number of drug paraphernalia including syringes, tooter straws, burnt foil, and torch lighters, along with suspected fentanyl.

He was transported to the hospital for medical clearance then released to the Carson City Jail without issue.
