  • Trash Mob volunteers took to the streets of downtown Carson City on Sunday.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space hosted its first Post Nevada Day Trash Mob on Sunday, Oct. 28. Twenty-five volunteers of all ages gathered at the Farmer’s Market parking lot at 8 a.m. Together, the group gathered more than 1,000 pounds of trash.

In addition to the trash mob, the Carson City Parks Department picked up 22 cubic yards of trash from downtown trash cans.

Volunteers worked their way from the parking lot moving up South Curry Street ending at Spear Street, picking up residual trash left in the streets, on sidewalks and in bushes.

From Spear Street, volunteers walked south on Carson Street, continuing to pick up trash on Carson and side streets. The event lasted for 90 minutes and was a huge success.

This was the first ever downtown volunteer trash mob. The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department looks forward to future clean-up events following Nevada Day.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is grateful for our volunteers and to Carson Demolition for providing their truck along with volunteering!
