UPDATE: A pedestrian struck by a vehicle Thursday night on South Carson Street in Carson City near I-580 died of injuries, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. The identity of the victim has not been released. The incident is under investigation and an arrest has been made. We will update as more information becomes available.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff’s deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded Thursday evening to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on South Carson Street near the junction of I-580.

The incident was reported shortly before 7 p.m. The patient suffered serious injuries. The vehicle involved reportedly left the scene of the crash.

A Care Flight air ambulance was ordered, however the closest helicopter was approximately 35 minutes out, according to first responders. The patient was instead taken by ground ambulance to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Carson City dispatch began receiving 911 calls regarding the incident, in which a man was reported down and a woman was screaming for help. A number of vehicles stopped to help, with first responders finding the patient down on the side of the road, determining he was hit by a vehicle.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a pickup. We will update as more information becomes available.
