Low pressure is moving into the Carson City region, with rain showers and high elevation snow in the Sierra expected through Wednesday, clearing by Thursday with mild weather through Nevada Day festivities, and then a stronger system pushing into the area late Sunday.

Wednesday’s system, which is moving into the region late Tuesday, could produce a quarter of an inch of rain along the Sierra and about a 10th of inch for the Carson City region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Snow levels will likely be between 8,500 to 9,000 feet with light accumulation possible on the highest Sierra passes including Mt. Rose, Ebbetts, Carson, Monitor. Precipitation is expected to be rain, however, over Spooner, Echo and Donner Summit.

The weather system will leave the area Thursday, but will also produce gusty wind conditions Thursday as well.

The weather should remain mild, seasonal and sunny through Saturday, with chances for a larger, stronger cold front moving into the area Sunday afternoon or by Sunday night. This weather system is said to have a decent amount of moisture associated with it, bringing snow levels down, possibly to 5,000 feet by Monday morning.
