Firefighters have made significant progress on the Little Valley Fire over the past few days, bringing containment to 90 percent with full containment possible today, according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center in a Wednesday morning briefing.

The Little Valley Fire started in the Franktown Road area at 2 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Although there has not been any active fire behavior in the last 72 hours, firefighters continue to monitor for heat and smoldering, mopping-up around structures and within the interior of the fire perimeter. The fire has burned 2,291 acres.

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District is assigned to the structure division on the fire, working around structures to mop-up any hot spots with the goal of making the area safe for residents. There are 423 firefighters who remain on the fire as of Wednesday morning.

Repairs continue being made to damage that occurred during suppression activities including installing water bars and repairing cut fences.

The public may see smokes within the interior of the fire perimeter with the warming and drying trend anticipated over the next few days, however these do not pose any threats to structures.

Mail and trash service are expected to return normal scheduled service Wednesday.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be in the 70s, with freezing temperatures overnight.

Road Closures: Franktown Road will re-open Wednesday afternoon. Please be cautious when driving as fire crews and equipment are still working in the area. For fire information please call 775-782-1429.
