Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol division has identified a Carson City man involved in a fatal single vehicle crash early Sunday morning north of the capital city near the Washoe County line.
On Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at approximately 1 a.m., Troopers with the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division, responded to reports of a fatal crash that occurred in the area of I-580 at Eastlake Boulevard.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup driven by Carson City resident Griseldo Castaneda Benitez, 23, of Carson City was traveling southbound on I-580 between Eastlake Boulevard and N. Carson Street.
For reasons unconfirmed, the driver allowed the Chevrolet to exit his travel lane and strike the center median wall.
Castaneda Benitez input steering to the right and failed to maintain control of his vehicle. He was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned and came to rest in the number two southbound travel lane of I-580, and the Chevrolet came to rest on its wheels facing southeast in the number one travel lane and erupted into flames.
Castaneda Benitez was transported from the scene via Care Flight and succumbed to his injuries at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
