An end-of-summer triathlon had dozens of Carson City area youth athletes swim, bike and run to the finish line Saturday morning at Mills Parks and the Carson Aquatic Facility.
The Carson Tigersharks hosted the 21st annual Capital City Kids Triathlon for children 4 to 14 as a community tradition to promote health, confidence and lifelong sportsmanship among local youth.
Parents, families and fellow participants cheered each other on through the stages of the event, starting off with a 25-yard swim course for children 4 to 6, plus 1 lap bike (0.4 miles) and 1 lap run (0.2 miles.) For children 7-8, the swim was two lengths pool (or 50 yards, two bike laps, (0.8 miles) plus two lap run (0.4 miles). For children ages 9-10 they swam 1 lap or 100 yards, a two-lap bicycle race for time and a 1 lap run (0.5 mile). Youth ages 11-14 swam 2 laps swim (or 200 yards) plus 3 laps bike (2 miles) and 2 lap run (1 mile).

Through multiple business sponsorship packages the Carson City community event helps the Tigersharks swim club expand its scholarships offered to underprivileged youth, allowing more to participate regardless of financial barriers.
