Guests adorned in flapper dresses, feather boas and long pearl beads walked the red carpet at The Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s first Hollywood Gala Saturday evening. In celebrating the Club’s first Anniversary, the theme of the event was the First Academy Awards of 1929.

Carson City Classic Cinema Club is a group of classic film fans who host film viewings on the first Tuesday of every month and discuss and share their passion of cinematic history. Proceeds from the club events support local performing arts programs and students.

Gala festivities included a red-carpet photo op, sit-down dinner, raffles, and silent auction at Gold Dust West in Carson City. The Club also presented its first Carson Arts Studies Trust (CAST) Award to The Boys and Girls Club. Prizes were awarded for the best Classic Celebrity Costume and for the best 1920s fashion.

Rhonda M. Abend created the group to celebrate cinematic history and to share her passion with those around her, but also to support arts programs in local schools. Abend created the group last year and now has 20 other members joining her.

Movie showings are open to the public and are $5 for general admission and $3 for students and seniors. To sign up to become a member of the Carson City Classic Cinema Club send them a message on Facebook or call Rhonda at 775.315.8495.
