The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Youth Cadets participated in the 2026 Central Valley Explorer/Cadet Competition in Tracy, Calif., June 26-27. A team of five dedicated cadets competed against 34 teams from the California area, nearly 200 other cadets.
They participated in 16 live action scenarios testing their knowledge in police and emergency services such as, domestic disturbances, hostage rescue, crime scene investigations and traffic stops.

The CCSO Cadets proudly brought home First Place in “Quality of Life” a scenario involving homeless subjects who suddenly have a medical emergency. The cadets provided life saving measures, maintained a safe area while dealing with unruly spectators. The cadets were calm, respectful and professional.
The Cadets also won third place in “Officer Rescue” a scenario where a fellow officer goes down in a staged scenario gun fight. The Cadets moved tactically as a team, surrounding the officer and extracting him to a safe location. They provided emergency care and successfully loaded him into a patrol car for expedited transport.
Throughout the competition, proctors of scenarios gave the Cadets accolades for their teamwork, decision making under stress, communication and fun, professional demeanors. While they didn’t bring home every trophy, the cadets scored over 90 of 100 possible points on multiple events.
The entirety of the trip was paid for with funds earned by the Cadets engaging in fundraising activities and events, further showing their dedication to the program, the Sheriff’s Office and their community.
