A warming trend will continue through the remainder of the week for Carson City and surrounding counties with Independence Day weekend becoming seasonably hot with afternoon breezes and slight chances for thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.
Each afternoon will be progressively warmer than the day before. By the holiday weekend, western Nevada valleys will return to the mid 90s, with mid 80s to near 90 across Lake Tahoe and Sierra valleys, according to NWS forecasters.

Afternoons this week will also bring daily gusts of 20 to 25 mph. With the recent dry conditions across the region, any spark could ignite and carry in dry fuels. Avoid activities that could start a fire as a precaution.
If your plans take you to a lake this week, keep in mind the afternoon wind gusts could create choppy lake waters.
For those recreating in the Sierra, keep an eye on the sky, since there’s a 5 percent chance for a shower or storm returns each afternoon this week and into the weekend, NWS forecasters said.
