The second dog, a female, remains in custody at NHS

In the early morning of June 26, the second feral dog that had run wild — causing mayhem to pet and livestock owners as well as a Carson City pack of deer — was brought into the custody of the Nevada Humane Society.

Since then, the fate of the dogs has been unknown.

The first dog captured was taken into the custody of the Washoe Tribe Animal Control, and remains under their care. What has happened to the first dog at this time is unknown.

According to Greg Hall, Chief Executive Officer of the Nevada Humane Society, NHS has offered to assist the tribe with the dog, including taking the dog into their custody.

If no one comes forward to claim the dog, which is currently in the stray hold process at NHS, then an evaluation process will begin.

“If the dog in our custody remains unclaimed our staff will perform a thorough evaluation process which identifies possible next steps,” said Hall. “There are a variety of possible outcomes so it is too early to have any indication of the final resolution. We are an open admission, no-kill organization with a 96 percent lifesaving rate so our goal is always to have animals in our custody healthy and adoptable.”

Hall stated that NHS is continuing to work with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Washoe Tribe Animal Control to secure the third dog, which remains at large at this time.
