Ogres-Holm Pottery has brought calm and relaxation to Carson City.
Now the family-owned business has expanded inside the Carson Mall at 1215 South Carson Street.
“We are very excited to start a new journey here,” owner Jo Moore said. “We just want to give the people a good time.”
Ogres-Holm offers hands-on teaching in wheel throwing, sculpture and painting from several specialized instructors as well as a variety of hand-made pottery items for sale.
“Slow down, imagine and create, that’s our motto around here,” Moore said. “This is a place where you can come to shop, learn about pottery or even socialize with the great people here.”
What started out as a hobby turned into a developed business with various creative minds on task.
“Our pottery collection was taking over rooms at our place,” co-owner Merrill Moore said. “Finally, when it reached the garage, we decided to start our first business two years ago.”
An open house was held for the public Saturday, giving a sneak peak at the crafting techniques practiced in the store.
Mayor Bob Crowell made an appearance and cut the ceremonial ribbon.
“Businesses like these are what people really want to go visit,” he said. “And they bring a bundle of learning, shopping and a good time while you’re there.”
Jo Moore has a special message for anyone interested in pottery or ceramics.
“If there’s something you want us to make, bring us a picture and we will craft it,” she said. “If you want to learn how to make it, let us teach you.”
