With pent up demand for travel, new destinations available, vacationers making their way to Lake Tahoe and the coming July 4 holiday, Reno-Tahoe International Airport officials say they expect to see an “unprecedented” number of passengers this weekend.

Parking lots will be at capacity and passengers will experience longer lines in ticketing and the security checkpoint, as the airport will potentially see 15,000-plus passengers arrive and depart on peak days, Thursday through Monday, according to a Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority news release.

Although overflow lots with an additional 400 spaces will be available when the garage and surface lot fill up, there is a possibility Reno-Tahoe International will run out of space starting late this Thursday, June 24. The airport is recommending travelers use an alternative means of transportation such as Uber, Lyft, taxi, public transportation or catch a ride with a friend or relative.

“If driving to Reno-Tahoe International is the only option, parking staff will be working during peak times directing traffic and handing out maps if the garage and surface lot fill up. As a rule, visitors should look to park first in the garage or surface lot, but if full, overflow signs will be clearly marked as guests enter the airport,” the news release states.

Other recommendations include:
— Arrive at least two hours prior to the originally scheduled departure time

— Expedite the security screening process by emptying pockets, removing shoes, electronic devices, jackets, food and liquids (not to exceed 3 oz.)

— Download boarding passes at home and keep cell phones charged for airline alerts
