A Carson City motorcycle gang member faces gross misdemeanor weapons charges after bringing a concealed knife into a concert attended by more than 200 people.
Dave Ernest Herrick, 46, faces charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon. Bail was set at $5,000.
According to the arrest report, Gold Dust West security officers alerted Carson City deputies that there was a man with a concealed weapon attending a Saturday night concert.
The arrest report stated that security officers observed two men wearing Vagos Motorcycle Club vests enter the concert area. One of the men, Herrick, was wearing a large knife on his hip and security, noticing this, asked him to take off the knife before entering the concert crowd.
The security officer gave the man the option of checking in the knife with security or securing the knife on his motorcycle, according to the arrest report.
The suspect told the security officer he would secure the knife on the motorcycle and returned to his motorcycle, but instead of securing the knife, the man hid the knife under his club vest, according to the arrest report. The two men re-entered the concert and because security didn’t want to confront the men, deputies were called.
The deputies met with the security officers who identified the two men as they walked out of the concert. A deputy recognized the men from prior contacts as belonging to the Carson City Chapter of the Vagos Outlaw Motorcycle gang. The arresting deputy knew that Herrick had a concealed firearms permit and that it is common for outlaw motorcycle gang members to carry large knifes and sometimes multiple weapons, including knives and firearms, according to the arrest report.
As Herrick and the other man approached the casino entrance from the concert area, a deputy motioned and directed the men to walk away from the entrance and other concert goers, in order to pat them down for weapons, according to the arrest report.
Herrick did not comply with the deputy’s order, after the deputy told him several times to move to the other area. The other man complied and moved to where he was directed, the arrest report stated.
Once Herrick was away from the entrance, the deputy asked him if he had weapons and then began to search him.
Herrick said he had a knife in his possession. The deputy removed a large sheathed knife that was tucked into his jeans in the small of his back, according to the arrest report. Herrick’s Vago vest was covering up the knife, concealing it from view. The sheath of the knife was tucked into the pants with the handle up. The handle was angle toward Herrick’s right side in a manner that made it easy access for the suspect’s right hand, according to the arrest report.
The black KBAR knife was in a sheath and the blade was 5.5 inches long from tip to handle. The blade was approximately 2-3 inches in width. The knife had a guard hilt protecting the users hands and appeared to be a dagger. Herrick was arrested and charged with gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.
