Sometimes the sweetest cats have the hardest journeys, and Ruby is hoping her next chapter will finally be the happy ending she deserves.
Ruby is a 7-year-old silver tabby domestic shorthair who is spayed, up to date on her vaccinations, and microchipped. While she may be a little shy at first, beneath that cautious exterior is an affectionate cat who simply needs a quiet home where she can feel safe enough to let her true personality shine.

Ruby’s story began a few years ago when she appeared at a home in Dayton, thin, frightened, and clearly in need of help. The family began feeding her, and before long she became a beloved part of their lives. Unfortunately, their resident cats would not accept a newcomer indoors, so Ruby remained an outdoor cat. Despite that limitation, she made it clear where she wanted to be. Every chance she got, Ruby tried to sneak inside. On the occasions she succeeded, she reveled in the comfort and security of being indoors.
Those who cared for her quickly discovered what a wonderful companion she was. Ruby was sweet, affectionate, and got along well with both cats and dogs. In fact, she absolutely adored the family’s dog.
When the family relocated to Texas in late April, they faced a heartbreaking reality. With a vehicle already full of their cats and dogs, they simply could not take Ruby with them. Wanting the best for her, they entrusted her future to Catmandu.
The transition has been difficult. The busy shelter environment, with its constant activity and large number of cats, was overwhelming for Ruby. Understandably frightened, she was moved into the medical room, where the quieter surroundings have helped her begin to relax. She still prefers the highest perch in the room, but she has started to build trust with certain people. Once she feels comfortable, she happily comes down to enjoy pets, attention, and companionship.
Ruby would thrive in a calm, patient home where she can settle in at her own pace. A cat-friendly dog would be a bonus, as she has shown how much she enjoys canine companionship. Given time, understanding, and love, we believe Ruby will blossom into the devoted and affectionate companion she was always meant to be.
Life hasn’t been easy for Ruby, but her future doesn’t have to be defined by her past. Now all she needs is someone willing to give her the chance she deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal friend and have a quiet home to offer, Ruby may be just right for you.
