The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department, in conjunction with the mayor, is hosting the annual community clean-up day at the Lone Mountain Cemetery as part of Mayor Bagwell’s ‘Move with the Mayor’ initiative.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department invites individuals, families, businesses, and other volunteer groups to participate in this community clean-up day at Lone Mountain Cemetery, located at 1044 Beverly Dr., Carson City, NV 89706, on Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

This is the 5th annual Move with the Mayor clean-up in Carson City. This event is especially meaningful for this community because it is hosted at Lone Mountain Cemetery, a peaceful place of history and solitude, and a resting place for over 9,000 individuals and loved ones.

Additionally, the Lone Mountain Cemetery is home to some of Nevada’s earliest written history dating back to the 1860s, and is readily accessible for the public to visit, learn from, and enjoy.

This 40-acre Cemetery is managed by the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department and contains numerous sections and memorials for people of various denominations, ethnic backgrounds, and economic and social standings. ‘Move with the Mayor’ is one of the Department’s biggest volunteer events of the year and brings many members of the community together to work on this meaningful project.

‘Move with the Mayor’ is a national campaign developed by the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention to encourage people to live active, healthy lifestyles. Volunteer activities will focus on weed removal around headstones and markers.

This event will require volunteers to stoop, kneel, and lift piles of weeds and debris, and utilize basic hand tools such as rakes and hula hoes. Tools, gloves, coffee, and additional water will be provided, but volunteers should wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and bring sunscreen and a water bottle. If you are part of a group, wear your organization’s swag with pride! Please note that dogs are not permitted at Lone Mountain Cemetery. Parking will be available along Beverly Drive or at the Carson City Senior Center, located at 911 Beverly Dr., Carson City, NV 89706.
