A 35-year-old man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of felony assault constituting domestic violence with use of a deadly weapon and other alleged offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Following an investigation, Harrison Manley of Carson City was taken into custody. He was also booked for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and resisting a public officer.

According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a Devin Avenue residence for a keep the peace call. The reporting party stated their wife’s friend wanted them to go with her to get her belongings from her ex-boyfriend and told them that if she doesn’t come out of the house in 10 minutes then they should call the sheriff’s office. The reporting party stated it had been 10 minutes and his attempts to make contact at the door had gone unanswered.

Deputies arrived and went to the front door and rang the Ring doorbell. At that point, the woman answered the door and stated “he has a bat.” The deputy saw the man, later identified as Harrison Manley, in the hallway. He was standing, facing the deputy with a doorway immediately to his right. The open doorway was less than 1 foot from the suspect. The deputy asked the woman to exit the residence and talk.

As she was in the front doorway, the suspect then slammed the door on her, hitting her and pinning her left arm and left foot in the door. Deputies immediately pushed against the door in the opposite direction that Harrison was. A deputy used his right shoulder, right hip and right leg to push against the door enough for the woman’s pinned arm and leg to be freed, the report states.

While pushing against the door, the suspect was instructed multiple times to open the door. He continually pushed against the door while the woman was pinned and continued to push against the door when she was freed, with disregard to lawful orders being directed at him, the report states. Eventually, he let go of the door and raised his hands.

At that point, deputies entered the home where the suspect was standing and placed him into handcuffs. Once in the patrol vehicle he was read his Miranda warning. The suspect stared directly ahead and did not state anything when asked if he understood his rights or if he wanted to speak, the report states.

Deputies learned in interviews that friends of the victim had gone to the house earlier in the day to get her belongings and that the suspect denied entry and stated he would let the victim get her belongings if she came and talked with him, according to the report. The victim decided to go in person to get her belongings and was let into the home by the suspect.

Once she was in the home and the front door was shut, he would not let her go further than the hallway bathroom. She asked to get her belongings and the man continued to not let her pass him, the report states. She then asked to check on her dog. At that point, the suspect grabbed a baseball bat and held it in his right hand with the barrel of the bat pointing down, according to the report.

She tried to walk past him and he used his chest to bump her. He was still holding the bat in his right hand. She then put her hands up to her shoulders with her palms facing the man and that is when deputies arrived, the report states.

After they rang the Ring doorbell and before the front door was open, the suspect placed the bat inside the bathroom right behind the door jam.

The man was booked for suspicion of felony assault constituting domestic violence with use of a deadly weapon, misdemeanor domestic battery and resisting an officer. Bail: $15,000.
