It’s snowing again in Carson City tonight, looking more like March 22 than May 22. Unfortunately for all of you gardeners out there the freezing temperatures and snow showers puts your plants and flowers at risk.

The National Weather Service in Reno and www.carsonweather.com reports freezing temperatures and snow showers will remain tonight that may produce slick roads across the region. The goods news is that there shouldn’t be significant amounts. Significant meaning more than 2 inches.

Carsonweather.com reports that we are experiencing an unusually cold low pressure tonight that is producing scattered snow showers across Western Nevada and Northeast California. While most areas will receive little accumulation, some locations may receive up to 2 inches of snowfall as heavier bands of snow develop this evening.

The areas most likely to receive these heavier snow bands includes Carson City, southern Lyon County, Gardnerville and Minden.

Highways affected include portions of Highway 395 south of Carson City, Highway 6 in extreme Southern Mineral County and Nevada highways 208, 338, 359 and 360. Even in areas where less snow is expected, temperatures will become cold for snow to accumulate on road surfaces creating slick driving conditions.

On Sunday, expect a slight chance of snow showers before 11 a.m., then a slight chance of rain showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. North northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
