Today the second round of asymptomatic community COVID-19 testing took place at Carson High School in Carson City and Carson Now reporter Kelsey Penrose filmed the process for the public.
I chose to volunteer for the testing as my brother and sister-in-law are expecting a new baby any day now and I wanted to make sure I’d be healthy to greet him.
The process took 15 minutes; our appointment was scheduled a few weeks ago via the non-symptomatic hotline for 1:30 p.m. and we were done by 1:44 p.m.
The Nevada National Guard headed operations at the testing site. We were asked for our identification at multiple check points during testing to make sure that our forms and identities were a match. We were asked to fill out a COVID-19 consent form before testing took place.
Testing itself took approximately 15 seconds and was done through the windows in the car by military personnel. We were asked to first blow our noses on provided tissues before a swab was inserted approximately halfway into the nose canal.
While this wasn’t exactly comfortable, it was by no means painful and felt a bit ticklish.
At the end we were instructed to drive forward to the last check point and we were given literature about COVID-19 and we received a form we could fill out if we wanted to receive a hard copy of our test results from Carson City Health and Human Services. We were informed that we would be receiving a phone call regarding our test results.
