Carson Tahoe Health is proud to honor legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician and longtime Northern Nevada resident Dave Mason with the dedication of one of its “Vehicles of Change” mobile outreach units, celebrating a legacy that will help kids build confidence and connection through creativity.

The public dedication ceremony, taking place on July 12 at 4 p.m. at Nashville Social Club in Carson City, Nev., will recognize Mason as the inaugural Champion of Creativity for Carson Tahoe Health’s “Vehicles of Change” initiative. The event will be followed by a benefit concert, featuring special guests celebrating Mason’s life and musical legacy, with proceeds supporting Carson Tahoe Health’s youth mental health outreach efforts through the Dave Mason Legacy Fund.

For more than six decades, Dave Mason inspired audiences around the world through music. From his early years as a founding member of Traffic to collaborations with some of the most influential artists in rock history, Mason’s career demonstrated the power of creativity, self-expression and perseverance, all values at the heart of the “Vehicles of Change” initiative.

Carson Tahoe Health is on a mission to reverse the youth mental health crisis through “Vehicles of Change,” a fleet of four transformative mobile units focused on sound, food, art, and movement. These vehicles travel throughout Northern Nevada to schools and community centers, providing play-based programming that helps children develop valuable lifelong skills for resilience and empathy.

Deeply grateful for the care he received while a patient at the hospital, Dave Mason’s wife Winifred Wilson, and his family, established the Dave Mason Legacy Fund to support Carson Tahoe Health’s efforts to address the youth mental health crisis through innovative, prevention-focused programming.

“Dave approached health holistically and believed this pioneering program would empower kids with what they need to thrive, regardless of what life throws their way,” said Wilson. “He understood that creativity has the power to connect people, build confidence, and transform lives. Through this fund, his spirit and belief in young people will continue making a difference for generations.” All contributions to his fund support “Vehicles of Change” and its mission to provide youth with tools needed to navigate life’s challenges.

The Vehicle to be dedicated in Mason’s honor, SOUND IDEAS, serves as the mobile stage and podcast studio where young people can explore music, storytelling, and communication. Designed to help youth discover and strengthen their own voice, SOUND IDEAS encourages self-expression through creative experiences that make learning both accessible and memorable. The connection between Mason’s lifelong commitment to music and the mission of SOUND IDEAS was a natural fit.

“All of this lifesaving outreach work is offered at no cost to kiddos and families,” said Kitty McKay, Vice President of Community and Patient Experience at Carson Tahoe Health. “That’s why the support of the Dave Mason Legacy Fund matters so much. Dave understood the power of creativity to change lives. Through SOUND IDEAS and this fund, his legacy will continue inspiring young people to find their voice, believe in their potential and create their own path forward. It’s driving a brighter future for Nevada and providing a blueprint for the nation.”

Following the dedication of the SOUND IDEAS vehicle, Nashville Social Club is hosting a benefit concert beginning at 5:30 p.m. featuring Dave Mason’s touring band and special guests performing in tribute to his legendary career. Proceeds from the event will support Vehicles of Change through the Dave Mason Legacy Fund.

Although tickets to the concert are sold out, members of public are encouraged to attend the dedication ceremony outside and continue celebrating in the main dining room of Nashville Social Club to experience the benefit concert streaming LIVE from The Swan Music Hall. Reservations strongly encouraged.
