A 49-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3100 block of N. Deer Run Road after allegedly luring a child, a felony offense.
According to the arrest report, William Lloyd Bennet was arrested after a mother called deputies to a storage facility stating that a man had taken her son.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the mother who said she had arrived at her storage unit with her son, and told her son to stay by the vehicle as she was going to go into the unit to turn on the lights. She said while she was opening the door, a neighbor, William “Bill” Bennett came out of the unit across from hers and said hello.
She said Bennett asked her son to go to into a storage unit because he wanted to show the boy a new dirtbike he’d just gotten. The mother told deputies she told her son and Bennett no, then told him again to stay by the vehicle.
She said she then went into the storage unit and turned on the lights, and as she was coming back out, she saw Bennett grab her son’s hand and took him into the unit.
She said she then went to the unit and saw her son and Bennett next to another man (referred to in this report as H) who was in a towel changing.
The deputy asked if the mother or her son had seen H naked, and she said no.
She told the deputy she then grabbed her son and walked out before calling the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies spoke with H and asked what had happened. H said he wasn’t entirely sure, and that he was in his storage taking a shower when he heard Bennett knocking on the storage door. H said he went to the door and opened it, thinking Bennett was alone, and that he did not know that the boy was going to be with Bennett. He said he ran to the back of the unit where he had a makeshift room to change in. He said he came back out when the mother walked into the unit, grabbed her son by the hand and left.
The deputy noted that the unit has a makeshift room inside of it, and in order to access the room, you need to walk all the way to the back of storage, while the dirt bikes were in the very front of the unit next to the main entrance, and “you do not need to enter the storage to be able to see the bikes from the main entrance.”
Deputies then spoke with Bennett who said he saw the mother and son arrive at their storage unit and went over to say hi. He said he asked the boy if he wanted to go see the new dirt bike, which was inside H’s storage unit. He said the boy said yes, and they walked over.
Bennett said when he knocked on the door, he saw H in his towel. He said he then walked in and proceeded to show the boy his dirt bike, when the mother walked in and took the boy.
Deputies asked if he heard the mother tell them no, and he said he did not hear her say that. They asked if Bennett had grabbed the boy by the arm and taken him to the storage, and he said “he might have.” He then said he guided the boy to the unit by pushing on his shoulder while asking him if he wanted to see the dirt bike.
The deputy asked if Bennett had known that H was in the shower, and he said yes.
Deputies took Bennett into custody, and Bennett provided a preliminary breath test which resulted in a BAC of .240.
