Low pressure will move over northeast California and western Nevada Wednesday, bringing showers and isolated afternoon thunderstorms to the region, according to the National Weather Service.

In the morning, showers could bring a light snowfall to the Sierra above about 6,500 feet which could affect travel over passes, mainly through around 9 a.m. until the sun gets high enough to melt off road accumulations.

In the afternoon, any thunderstorms will be capable of bringing a few cloud-to-ground lightning strikes and small hail. In the Sierra, areas that experience thunderstorms with heavier precipitation could see brief periods of slick roads with a light hail accumulation.

For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, there’s a 50 percent chance of showers Wednesday, with daytime highs in the low 50s.

The weather service advises boaters should have a plan to get back to shore quickly in the event of thunderstorms.

There’s a slight chance for showers Thursday in Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, with a high near 60. Friday through Sunday warms up with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 60s.
