On June 23rd, 2026, at 4:38 AM, Carson City Deputies received calls regarding a shooting that had just occurred in the 1300 block of Kingsley Avenue in South Carson City. Patrol Deputies determined an unknown suspect fired multiple handgun rounds into a home where a family, including children, was sleeping.
The initial investigation determined that a bullet passed through the residence and narrowly missed a sleeping child by several feet.
Flock license plate reading cameras quickly identified the suspect and vehicle traveling near the shooting scene.
The suspect, Zachary Leo Vereschagin, was located in Gardnerville, Nevada. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted Carson City Detectives with apprehending Zachary in the 800 block of Selkirk Drive in the Ranchos without incident. A search warrant was executed at that location, where evidence of the shooting was recovered.
Zachary was arrested and transported to the Carson City Detention Center, where he is being held on the following charges on a $250,000 bond.
1) Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling
2)Assault with a Deadly Weapon
3)Child Abuse, Neglect, Endangerment
4)Convicted Person in Possession of a Firearm
5)Reckless Endangerment
6)Aggravated Stalking
