They arrived the first week of February — two small shadows around 3 months old – flitting around the perimeter of the yard at Catmandu. Scared, hungry, and half-wild, Soot and Hayze had clearly been through something. No one knows exactly what happened to their mother. Whatever it was, it left the boys on their own and scared spitless. We suspect that instinct — and the irresistible scent of food and other cats — led these young brothers to the one place that could help them.

After being carefully trapped, the boys entered foster care, where the hard work and the real magic began. Through time, patience, play therapy, and more than a few Churu and Temptations treats, these two gradually began to let their guard down. Slow blinks replaced wide-eyed alarm. Cautious curiosity replaced retreat. And eventually, the gentle nudge of a head against a hand.
Soot is a short-haired black neutered male with a sweet white patch on his chest and bright green eyes. He’s the mischievous one of the pair — clever and a little cheeky, though never in a mean-spirited way. Think of him as the brother who’s always plotting something fun. He also watches out for Hayze, making sure nothing bad happens to him.
Hayze is a short-haired grey neutered male, also with striking green eyes and the same soft, plush fur. He shares his brother’s intelligence and playfulness, although he is a little more hesitant with new people and situations. Together the two make a wonderfully entertaining duo who can be sweet and loving when they are comfortable and in the mood.

These boys must be adopted together. Their bond is deep and unbreakable — they have relied on each other through everything, and separating them simply isn’t an option. The good news is, you get twice the personality, twice the purrs (in time), and twice the love.
Soot and Hayze have come a long way from the frightened kittens who wandered into our yard, but they’re still on their journey. Since returning to Catmandu from their foster stay, these two are ready and hopeful for their next chapter. They’ll thrive best in a quieter home with cat-savvy adults or older children who understand that trust, once earned, is something truly special. They haven’t been around dogs, and a household without small or loud children will suit them best.
If you have the patience to let them come to you, and the heart to see who they’re becoming, Soot and Hayze will reward you in ways you won’t expect. These are not just cats looking for a home. They are cats who, with the right people, have every potential to become deeply loving, loyal companions.
Meet these sweet brothers this weekend at Catmandu. We are open Friday -Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1829 Brown Street. Come early if you wish to adopt.
