A new law requires the Carson City School District to allow requests from families wanting their children to attend a school other than the one in their residential zoning.

Beginning next school year (2026-2027), CCSD will begin accepting requests, and to prepare, the district is soliciting feedback from families on how many will be seeking the opportunity to switch schools as this change comes into effect:

Carson City School District Families:

The Nevada Legislature recently passed new laws (including Assembly Bill 533) requiring that CCSD establish a system for Intra-District Open Enrollment. This means that, starting next school year, students may have the opportunity to apply to attend a public school within CCSD other than the one they are currently zoned for, provided the requested school has sufficient space. Open Enrollment requests do not displace zoned students, but additional space at each school can be made available to interested students.

Limited grant funding is available from the state to assist families who do not otherwise have the means to transport their students from a one or two star school to a three, four, or five star school. This might look like additional bus routes or mileage reimbursement. No CCSD funding will be set aside for transportation assistance- all funding is pending state grant money awarded to CCSD families.

As we prepare to implement this new policy, we need your input to ensure we can meet the potential demand, plan for facility capacity, and secure necessary state funding for transportation assistance.

Please take a few minutes to complete this brief, anonymous survey to help us accurately gauge interest in participating in Open Enrollment. Your feedback is essential for a successful launch of this new program

NOTE: Open enrollment will take the place of variances. If you are currently on a variance, you will need to apply for open enrollment in order to maintain your school of choice. If you will be enrolling a Kindergartener and are interested in open enrollment, please know that you will need to formally enroll with CCSD prior to applying for Open Enrollment.

Thank you!
