It looks to be a soggy holiday Easter weekend for Carson City, and a snowy one in the Sierra above Lake Tahoe.
A weather system will move into the Sierra and Western Nevada beginning tonight and last through Monday, bringing snow to the higher elevations of the Sierra and up to a half-inch of rain for the valleys in Western Nevada, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.
Isolated showers are expected to begin tonight, with the bulk of the low system moving through the region on Saturday bringing the possibility of a few thunderstorms in the Sierra and Western Nevada. As the temperature lowers there’s a possibility of a mix of rain and snow and ice pellets over Sierra passes through Saturday night.
Snow levels will start at above 8,000 feet and fall to 6,500 to 7,000 feet by Sunday afternoon as the coldest part of the storm pushes through.
Rainfall amounts this weekend could range between a half to one-inch across the Sierra with a quarter to half inch possible for Western Nevada, according to the weather service.
Snow accumulations should be limited to elevations above 7,500 feet and could impact travel over mountain passes.
