Wrestlers from both Carson Middle School (CMS) and Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS) were recognized as Champions at the league’s Tah-Neva Championship Tournament earlier this month at Pershing County High School in Lovelock. CMS and EVMS each had 3 champions, two of which were selected as “Outstanding Wrestlers.”

The six league champions (alphabetically by last name) include Kaitlyn Funk, CMS eighth-grade girl in the 115 pound weight class; Winston Gerber, EVMS seventh-grade boy in the 115 pound weight class; Dustin Hillis, EVMS seventh-grade boy in the 125 pound weight class, who was also awarded “Outstanding Wrestler Seventh Grade Middle Weight;” Methyaz Sepulveda, CMS seventh-grade boy in the 165 pound weight class; Daniel Walther, CMS eighth-grade boy in the 100 pound weight class, who was also awarded “Outstanding Wrestler Eighth Grade Light Weight;” and Dylan Wentworth, EVMS seventh-grade boy in the 110 pound weight class.

More than 305 wrestlers representing 20 schools across northern Nevada gathered for the championship tournament. Together, CMS and EVMS sent 16 and 17 wrestlers respectively, representing Carson City Schools. Described as high adrenaline chaos, the tournament was the culmination of the hard work and discipline by the athletes from both schools to bring great pride to the Carson City area.

CMS wrestlers were coached by Elijah Olson and EVMS was coached by Justin Barlow. Below are additional podium results for Carson City from the 2025 Tah-Neva Championship Tournament.

The season had many highlights from the formidable grapplers of both schools. Prior to the championship tournament, a preview of Carson City’s wrestling stars was on display at Eagle Valley Middle School during the “2nd Annual Rumble in the Capital Dual,” a rivalry dual between the two schools to promote their sport and camaraderie among the athletes. The Carson Solons edged out the Eagles 38 to 22 by taking home the “Rumble in the Capital Cup” for the first time.
