UPDATE 9:28AM: The first crash involved three vehicles and a driver going the wrong way. A female motorist was unconscious and flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno, said Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Gordon. Her condition is unknown at this time. The crash is under investigation.

At least one person was seriously injured in a vehicle crash that happened Friday morning on Highway 50 East near Gold Dust West and the I580 overpass.

The crash was reported at around 7:50 a.m. in the eastbound lane near the underpass. Carson City Fire Department alerted Care Flight to respond at the airport to transport the victim via Care Flight to the trauma center at Renown Medical Center in Reno.

A second crash was reported a few minutes later in which a motorist spilled their coffee, went through a red light, hit a car and then drove over a median, hitting the building of the Dunkin’ Donuts, said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Cullen. The injured motorist was transported to Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Motorists can expect delays and are advised to use alternative routes. Carson City deputies and Nevada Highway Patrol are rerouting traffic around the crash scene.

The cause of the crashes are unknown at this time. We will update as more information becomes available.
