Chief Deputy District Attorney Kelly Brandon filed on Wednesday for Carson City District Attorney.
“Working in the office provides me with a deep and unique understanding of what it takes to be the District Attorney. The office serves two primary functions, as the jurisdiction’s prosecutor and as its counsel. It is critical that the next District Attorney understands what it means to bear those sovereign duties with grace and dignity. Having served in the office since 2018, I have provided legal advice to city departments, prosecuted all types of crimes, and served in the office’s management team. I know what it means to shoulder that responsibility.”
Addressing questions about serving as a prosecutor, Brandon stated, “It has been the honor of a lifetime to support victims and seek justice for our community. It often requires late nights and early mornings, but each one is worth it when you know that justice has been served. Nothing can prepare you for taking a call at two in the morning that a child in your community is near death or has been sexually assaulted, but seeking justice for that victim means you take the call no matter how tired you are or how difficult of a day you have had.”
When discussing the office, Brandon stated, “We have created a work culture that produces high quality representation, effectively uses resources, and provides support to our staff. Having served as a supervisor of support staff and attorneys in the office, the role of the District Attorney is to create processes and guidelines that support them and help them produce their best work. We have some amazing employees who willingly forgo their own vacations and family events to put the public first. I am proud to work alongside them, and it is my goal to continue to support the hard work they put in every day.”
“The District Attorney is the ethical and legal backstop of our City’s government and the justice system. You deserve to see your government at its best and my goal is to continue to show through my daily work and my campaign that I am worthy of your trust to serve in this critical role.”
