At approximately 5:21 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 2600 block of Merrill Road in northern Carson City to perform a welfare check on the residents who had not been seen or heard from in two weeks. At arrival, deputies located two deceased females in the residence, both in advanced states of decomposition.
Detectives and coroners were summoned to the scene to investigate and remained at the residence collecting evidence throughout the night. By early morning, it was determined the bodies were that of an 89-year-old woman and an approximately 60-year-old female, both of whom resided at the residence.
Both bodies were determined to have likely been deceased for at least the two-week period initially reported. Evidence and initial reporting indicated that the younger female was the daughter and caretaker of the older female who was likely suffering severe health issues that were reported to be terminal.Â
The body of the 89-year-old female did not indicate any unanticipated trauma. However, the 60-year-old female likely suffered a gunshot wound. A weapon was located in the proximity of the victims. Both bodies were transported to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.Â
The preliminary investigation has determined that there is no ongoing threat to the community or area residents. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 775-887-2677 (COPS).
