The heroic efforts of three Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies saved the life of an occupant at a Minonee Lane home that caught fire late Monday night, causing significant damage to the home and serious damage to another, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon.
CCSO deputies arrived at the burning home shortly before Carson City firefighters arrived and, after learning someone, possibly a child, was inside, entered the home, rescuing a man who was in a bedroom.
The adult male was in his bedroom with the door closed, which prevent significant smoke and fire from entering the room, said Slamon. The man was taken to the hospital and is recovering.
The names of the deputies who helped the man escape the home were not immediately available. The deputies were treated for smoke inhalation and were not injured.
The cause of the fire, reported to CCFD at 11:14 p.m., is under investigation.
Eight people have been displaced between the two homes and are in the care the American Red Cross, said Slamon. The fire was knocked down shortly before midnight. Early damage estimates to both homes is $350,000, said Slamon.
A total of 29 firefighters were involved, including Truckee Meadows and East Fork Fire Protection District.
