The unbeaten Carson High School Senators stormed into the high school boys basketball post-season on a 16-0 unbeaten streak in the Sierra League.

They played host to the visiting Reed High Raiders Wednesday night in the opening round of the NIAA Northern Division I playoffs, and didn’t miss a beat, either.

Carson High overwhelmed its guests, 57-31, to advance to the regional round of the playoffs at the end of the week.

The Senators led for most of the game, gradually extending their lead with each passing eight-minute quarter. Carson outscored Reed, 14-10, in the second period to post a nine-point halftime advantage.

Then in the third period, Carson High outscored the Raiders 15-7 for a commanding 17-point lead heading into the final quarter of play.

This included a 7-0 run late in the third frame that sent Carson to the freethrow line multiple times. And the Senators took advantage of the freebies by converting most of them.

In the final eight minutes of play, the hometown Senators blew the game open by going on a 12-3 run that put the Reed Raiders away for good.

Jayden DeJoseph paced the Senators with a team-high 21 points, while teammates Asa Carter and Tez Allen added 11 points apiece for Carson High.

Wednesday night’s win sends Carson to the NIAA Northern Division I Regional boys basketball playoffs, which begins later this week at Spanish Springs High School in Sparks.

The Senators take on Sierra League rival Galena on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:15 p.m. In their last meeting, the host Grizzlies took Carson High to the wire. The Senators escaped with a two-point victory that preserved their perfect league record.
