Jeff Marsolais has been picked to lead the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit of the U.S. Forest Service, Region 5 officials announced Tuesday. Marsolais has served three years as the deputy forest supervisor for the Lake Tahoe unit. He replaces Nancy Gibson, who retired at the first of the year.
During that time Marsolais served as manager of projects and initiatives involving ski areas and recreation facilities.
“I am proud to be chosen to lead the highly skilled, motivated and dedicated team on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit,” said Marsolais. “I understand the responsibility involved in managing such a complex and high-profile unit, and I look forward to meeting that challenge with the help of my team and our outstanding partners.
In 2014, Marsolais served as special assistant to the regional forester, providing strategic guidance and direction on hiring efforts for the Pacific Southwest Region.
Marsolais has worked for the Forest Service since the mid-1990s and served on seven different National Forests in the Pacific Southwest and Intermountain regions before arriving on the LTBMU. He worked for the Bureau of Land Management prior to that.
Marsolais has performed duties ranging from firefighter to recreation manager and held a variety of positions at both district and forest levels. He is skilled in building motivated teams, managing conflict and capitalizing on group diversity. Marsolais holds a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources and Recreation Planning and a master’s degree in Natural Resources from Humboldt State University.
