Carson City is in a good place with more good things to come will be the primary message of the Annual Mayor’s State of the City Address presented by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce to be held on Feb. 25.
Mayor Lori Bagwell has chosen the theme “Honoring America’s 250th Through Service and Success,” to illustrate and recognize the many people and events that continue to make Carson City proudly a place to call home. As a hands-on mayor, she continues to champion service to community as a priority, not just touting the concept to others, but as a doer.
Her fellow board members, Stacey Giomi, Lisa Schuette, Maurice White and Curtis Horton share her passion, all participating fully in positively moving the city forward as they champion and serve on boards of the non-profits that tend to community members in need.
Mayor Bagwell’s roots run deep in American history that can be traced back to the founding fathers. As a high-ranking member of the Battle Born Chapter of the National Society Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR), her chosen theme blends with Nevada’s celebration now in progress.
As shown on the state’s 250th Anniversary site, “We have an opportunity to reflect on our heritage, celebrate our accomplishments and dream of the future we want. America 250 Nevada honors our state’s role in making this great nation with a 6-month-long celebration. This non-partisan event runs from Jan. 1 through July 4, 2026.”
Mayor Bagwell will reveal her dream for this historic city’s celebration where Nevada history had been made even before Abraham Lincoln signed the proclamation declaring Nevada the 36th state to join the Union on Oct. 31, 1864, which was 88 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Adding to the historic aspect of this address will be a special appearance by McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain. Samual Langhorne Clemens first arrived in Carson City on August 15, 1861 leaving as Mark Twain in late May 1864, five months before statehood. Also appearing will be the award-winning Carson High NJROTC Senator Battalion Honor Guard.
The public is invited to enjoy a fine buffet meal on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 11:30 a.m. in the ballroom of the Casino Fandango and to hear the Mayor’s annual address as we celebrate yet another successful year and look to the future.
Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased online at www.carsoncitychamber.com by clicking the homepage spotlight or by calling the Chamber at 775-882-1565. Ticket sales end on Feb. 18.
