The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office issued a “shelter in place” warning Wednesday afternoon for a Fernley subdivision due to a standoff with LCSO after reports of a man shooting a firearm and yelling at people.
School children who ride buses into the subdivision are being held until the shelter in place order has been lifted, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
When attempting to make contact with the man, he returned to his residence and refused to answer deputies.
As of 4:15 p.m., the suspect is currently located inside his Southwest Meadows subdivision residence. Lyon County Sheriff’s Office trained hostage negotiators are attempting to make contact with him. The subdivision is located south of Fernley High School.
In a social media release, LCSO said the incident began at 12:40 p.m. and that SWAT in place if they are needed.
We will update as more information becomes available.
