A 32-year-old Missouri man was arrested for battery on a protected person, two counts, after deputies were called to Carson Tahoe Hospital to escort the man to Mallory Behavioral Health Crisis Center.
According to the arrest report, deputies arrived and were advised by hospital staff that the man had been placed on a legal hold and was ready to be transported to Mallory.
The man had been brought in the night prior by another deputy, and was then placed on the hold after evaluation by staff.
Deputies spoke to the man and told him they were there to take him to Mallory. The man made statements such as “someone else needed to go with him” and “that wasn’t going to happen.”
The reporting deputy explained that he needed to place him in handcuffs to transport him, and the man “became defensive” and advised he wouldn’t go in the cuffs. After a short time, the report states, he agreed to be cuffed in the front of his body.
The deputy placed a cuff on one wrist, but before he could cuff the other wrist, the man “pulled back his let hand and stated that wasn’t going to happen.”
The deputy uncuffed his other hand and told the man to sit on the bed, then contacted dispatch and asked for an additional unit as the man was “becoming agitated.”
Two additional deputies responded to assist in taking him to Mallory. Deputies re-entered the room and told him again they would need to place him in handcuffs to transport him.
According to the report, he stood up and said he wasn’t going anywhere, then punched the deputy in his shoulders, one of the hits “traveling to the left side of [the deputy’s] chin,” the report states.
The deputies were able to subdue the man and place him in handcuffs, but during the altercation another deputy was struck by the man’s elbow on his shoulder and cheek.
The man was “actively screaming and agitated” while deputies and hospital security worked to cuff him.
Deputies placed the man in a wheelchair and had to place him inside the patrol vehicle with some difficulty.
He was transported to the Carson City Jail and released to jail staff without incident.

Carson City Man arrested for “bear hug” domestic battery
A 73-year-old Carson City man was arrested after deputies were dispatched to Shady Tree Lane on report of a domestic battery.
According to the report, the man had tackled and pinned someone during an altercation about two hours prior.
Deputies met with the victim who said the man was inside the house, and that she didn’t feel safe going back inside and was scared. She said she was the man’s power of attorney and controlled his medications and financials. She said he is an alcoholic and often drinks, which is not supposed to do because of his medications.
She told deputies that she had returned home earlier that day after being gone for two days. She said she had taken his credit and debit cards earlier that day as he’d been drinking. She said he wanted the cards, which were in her jacket pocket, at which point he became upset and began arguing.
She said she and the man were standing in the kitchen when the argument started, and he had walked up to her and ‘bear hugged’ her, wrapping his arms around her body and pushing her into the counter and then in a corner. He also wrapped his leg around her to keep her from getting away, the report stated.
While he was holding her in place, he was actively trying to reach into her jacket pocket to retrieve the cards.
She told deputies she was “shocked and frightened” that the man would do this to her, at which point deputies went to speak with the man.
At first, the man initially denied any argument or altercation and said he didn’t know why deputies were there. Deputies asked if he had “bear hugged” the woman, and he said he did.
Deputies said during their conversation he said he had bear hugged her to “scare and intimidate her.”
Deputies attempted to handcuff the man, but he backed up and pulled away. Two deputies had to gain control of the man in order to handcuff him and place him in the patrol vehicle.
He provided a PBT which resulted in a 0.052% BAC. Deputies took the man to the Carson City Jail on suspicion of Domestic Battery first.
Bail: $3,000
