The Nevada LGBTQ+ & Friends Social raised over $1,000 to provide meals for Nevadans in need. When SNAP benefits were cut, the Social went to work. Right now, over 500,000 Nevadans do not know where their next meal is coming from. The most affected are children and senior citizens.
Given that rural communities are hardest hit by the policies of our current administration, this is where most of our donations went: $665 for Elko, Ely & Winnemucca followed by $320 for Carson City & Reno; $175 for Las Vegas.
Matching funds meant that for every dollar raised, six meals were provided. The result: $1,160 donated = 6,960 meals = feeding 331 Nevadans in need for a week.
Additionally, over 300 pounds of nonperishable food were donated to Advocates to End Domestic Violence in Carson City. This was built on a donation from Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint, 1500 Old Hot Springs Road in Carson City.
The Social is dedicated to helping our neighbors in need. The organization holds quarterly Socials at Red’s Old 395 Grill in Carson City. The next Social will be held on March 14th, 2-5pm. $25/person. Some free tickets are available to those who could not otherwise afford to attend.

Some free tickets are available for students as well as for adults who could not otherwise afford to participate. Email free ticket requests to wnvlgbtq@gmail.com.
If you are able, please help our fellow Nevadans in need. Just skip that one Starbucks latte and donate that amount. You would be surprised how much help results from that simple act of kindness.
