Some road controls exist at mountain passes and on roads at higher elevations for the Thursday morning commute, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).
Chains or snow tires are required on U.S. Highway 50 West at Spooner Summit at the Carson City line for about a mile east toward the Nevada state capital, NDOT reports.
Traction tires or devices are also required on Highway 50 West for about five miles, from mile post 9.5 to 14.6 along the shore of Lake Tahoe.
State Route 431 at Incline Village has chains or snow tires required for about eight miles up the Mount Rose Highway to about the Mount Rose summit, NDOT said.
And Geiger Grade in Washoe County requires chains or snow tires for about the first six miles up SR 341, as well as for about nine miles into Storey County, NDOT said.
There are no road controls to report, according to NDOT, including highways and roadways through the valleys Thursday.
Carson City weather Thursday includes a 20 percent chance of snow showers before 10 a.m., the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno reports.
Conditions are then expected to dry out for the next several days, remaining mostly cloudy Thursday but burning off to partly cloudy to mostly sunny Friday through next Tuesday before a chance of precipitation again next Wednesday, the NWS said.
Thursday’s high temperature is forecast to reach about 35 degrees with an overnight low of around 15. Daytime highs for the next several days to follow are forecast to reach into the upper 30s to low 40s, and lows dipping down into the upper teens to low 20s, the NWS reports.
