Carson High Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of alumna Jaycie Roberts as the new head varsity girls volleyball coach and Steven Heyder as the new head varsity girls soccer coach at Carson High School.

Coach Roberts is a dedicated volleyball coach with more than 15 years of competitive playing experience and multiple years of coaching across club, high school and middle school levels. She is a former Division 1 outside hitter with extensive knowledge in player development, team leadership and technical skill training. She is also passionate about creating positive, competitive environments that help athletes grow both on and off the court.

Roberts played five years of Division 1 Volleyball for Niagara University outside of Buffalo, New York. While in college, she was named All-Rookie Team (2017), two-time First Team All-Conference selection (2020 and 2021) and two-time Academic Team honoree (2020 and 2021). Most recently, Roberts coached junior varsity volleyball at Carson High, 2023-2025, and she has been an assistant coach atTstreet Volleyball Club since 2024. She graduated from Carson High in 2017.

Coach Heyder has coached in northern Nevada and the Tahoe-Truckee region and comes to Carson High with a staff of experienced coaches and alumni. He plans to continue to build on the Carson High culture of student-athletics and what it means to be a Senator, with an emphasis on long-term player development and a positive, competitive environment. Heyder holds a UEFA C coaching license issued through the German Football Association – Deutschen Fussball-Bundes (DFB) and has completed coaching education through the TOVO Institute https://tovoacademy.com/about-tovo/, Barcelona, Spain. His staff includes goalkeeping and strength and conditioning coaches.

Heyder earned a bachelor’s in Computer Science from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., and an MBA in Global Management from the University of Phoenix in Reno. Most recently, he was the director of coaching for the Truckee River United Football Club in Truckee, Calif., where he led the technical direction and culture and set training standards and seasonal plans for a multi-team competitive club. He also has been a head coach for the Reno Apex Soccer Club since 2015.
