A Panda Express will be take up residence on a long-vacant lot in north Carson City, according to the Carson City Planning Department, and is currently under construction. The construction has reduced travel lanes for the time being on North Carson Street.
A number of plans have been proposed over the years for the lot, which sits between the old Golden Dragon restaurant building, (now Roger’s Carpet One), and the Renown Urgent Care.
However, the lot has remained empty despite these different submitted plans and was cited a number of times for code violations after the lot filled with weeds year after year, according to code enforcement records.
In 2007, a major project review was submitted to turn the lot into a Carson Medical Group office. In 2020, an applicant submitted plans to turn the lot into a private party used car sales lot. Then, in 2021, another application came in for multi-family workforce housing for veterans.
Finally, in 2023, an application was submitted for two 2,600 square foot causal restaurants with drive-thrusters, which presumably is the application Panda Express is being built under, though the plan approval is currently listed as expired.
The business is currently under construction, and a permit has been submitted for a large exterior Panda Express sign. At this time, it’s not known if there are still plans for a second fast-food restaurant to be completed along with the Panda Express. An opening date has not yet been announced.
We will update with new information when it becomes available.
