Two were arrested Tuesday for suspicion of drug possession and other alleged crimes, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Trevor Nau, 37, and Rachel Anne Irvin, 33, both of Reno, were arrested following an investigation. Nau was booked for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, gross misdemeanor possession of burglary tools, obstructing and resisting and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Irvin was arrested for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the booking report, a sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop in the 3100 block of US-50 on a vehicle tag that expired Nov. 16, 2024. The deputy made contact with the driver, Nau, and passenger, Irvin. Deputies advised the reason for the stop. Nau told the deputy it was his friend’s vehicle. He was asked if there were any guns or drugs in the vehicle. He replied no. The deputy noticed the woman had a laceration on her forehead. The deputy asked if she was doing OK. She said she was fine and the laceration wasn’t fresh, the report states.

At that time, the deputy requested a K9 unit and asked the couple to step outside the vehicle. Nau became verbally uncooperative and said he was not getting out of the vehicle. The officer attempted to open the passenger door but there was no outside door handle, the report states.

The deputy asked them both to open the door but the man refused and tried to turn the car on, the arrest report states. The deputy gave the man verbal commands to leave the car off and get out of the vehicle. The deputy opened the back passenger door and asked the woman to exit the vehicle. Both then exited the vehicle.

The K9 alerted positive for drugs on the vehicle and deputies explained to the man there was probable cause to search the vehicle. The man told deputies he did not consent to having his vehicle searched. A deputy explained probable cause did not require consent.

The man put his hands in his pocket and locked the door to avoid deputies to do a search. Nau was handcuffed and placed into custody for obstruction. At this time, the keys were removed from his pocket and he was placed in a patrol vehicle. Both were read their Miranda warning.

The arresting deputy walked over to another deputy and Irvin, who said there was fentanyl in a container in the front seat. She said she did not want deputies to get exposed. The woman was asked if there was anything else in the car. She said she did not know of anything else. She later said that the large amount of cash, $14,000, was from a check from family she had cashed, saying she was attempting to buy a vehicle. The man said he did not know about the cash in the vehicle.

Deputies located the drugs, the large amount of cash, burglary tools, a black laptop, and black phone, more paraphernalia and more controlled substances. The money and contraband was booked into CCSO’s evidence vault. Bail: $2,500 each.
