The first round of snow expected this week fell overnight and will continues Wednesday at Lake Tahoe and much of the Sierra with a few to several inches of accumulation. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Reno says 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected, with locally higher amounts up to 6 inches above 7,000 feet. Chains or snow tire requirements are required over the following mountain passes: Spooner, Daggett, Mt. Rose and Donner. Mt. Rose Ski Area is already reporting a foot of snow from the storm.

Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 511.

Snow has not made it down into the valleys and roads are clear going through Washoe Valley and Carson Valley. Check back for updates.
