Virtual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights, pictures with Santa and more highlight weekend events in Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. Santa Claus will arrive virtually at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and in-person at Battle Born Harley Davidson on Saturday for pictures with families and kids of all ages. There's a lot going on today in our beautiful Capital City, with day two of Epic Rides, the Carson City Airport Open House and Wing Cook-off, the farmer's market, a youth expo, and more.

There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, plus the Nevada State Museum will host 2 behind the scenes tours in natural history and anthropology. Plus, the fourth annual Carson City Off-Road kicks off its three-day event with a Capital 15 Fun Ride and Free Clunker Crit Ride. Heading into the evening, “Newsies” will take stage at the Carson City Community Center and you can sit under the stars and watch “The Little Rascals” at 8 p.m. during movie night at John Mankins Park.

Stop the presses! Wild Horse Children’s Theater looking for actors, singers and dancers, ages 8-21, for the Northern Nevada premiere of the Disney film turned Tony-winning Broadway hit, "Newsies."

Auditions will be held on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall. Auditions are by appointment only! You must call for an audition slot.

Senator Square: Honors student Wright active in theater

This week’s senior spotlight is on senior Challen Wright. Challen currently has a 4.43 weighted GPA and has straight A’s in his challenging course load of AP and honors courses.

In addition to being an excellent student, Challen is also heavily involved in theater both at Carson High School and in the community. Challen has been a part of nearly every Carson High School production since his freshman year, including behind the scenes as the stage manager of the most recent play, The House of Bernarda Alba.

The Brewery Arts Center and Wild Horse Productions have announced a partnership that will welcome Wild Horse Productions as a resident company at the Brewery Arts Center.

While the BAC is open to other artists and arts organizations, as well as the general public for collaborations and to rent their facilities, a resident status may be offered to organizations who demonstrate sound business practices, financial strength, the ability to fill seats and, above all, artistic prowess. Both organizations will retain their independence and tax exempt, nonprofit status.

Show biz questions welcomed at workshop in Carson City

Wild Horse Theater, in collaboration with Nevada Casting Group, Inc., will be presenting a workshop, Everything You Wanted to Know about 'The Biz' But We Afraid to Ask on Friday, April 15, 6:30 p.m., at 813 N. Carson St. in Carson City.

This one-hour question and answer session will give adults and children a chance to meet Juli Green, casting director and CEO of Nevada Casting Group, and to ask questions and get more information about the entertainment industry in Northern Nevada.
