The Northern Nevada Dream Center held a food drive at Capital Ford in Carson City Friday afternoon in order to help those in need throughout our region.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Florence Phillips has taken her all-volunteer tutoring program for immigrants and refugees — English Language Learners In-Home Program — completely online over the last couple of months.

Capital Ford is reminding locals that tomorrow, Friday, May 29, residents can drive-thru their lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to drop off food donations to benefit the Northern Nevada Dream Center!

Food Bank of Northern Nevada has multiple sites where they are accepting donations this Friday, May 29, including Friends in Service Helping (also known as FISH) thrift stores in Carson City and Minden.

In addition to the many adaptations local 4-H programs have made in Nevada communities the last couple of months amid COVID-19 to keep 4-H youth engaged, the Nevada 4-H Youth Development Program has developed a variety of activities to engage 4-H youth throughout the state during the summer months.

The Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church Food Pantry is participating with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and other food pantries in the region in the Feed Nevada and the Sierra Drive-Thru Food Drive this Friday, May 29, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

RENO - Based on processed applications as of May 13, 2020, Nevada State Bank has announced approval for 4,255 U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans totaling $592,005,500.

More than 68% of the loans were made to businesses with fewer than 10 employees and approximately 82% of the loans approved were for amounts less than $150,000 (57% for amounts less than $50,000). The funding will help preserve payrolls for 65,607 Nevada jobs, based on applicant data.

UPDATE: Reports coming in from throughout the region note the quake was felt throughout northern and southern Nevada, as well as in Central and Northern California. Esmeralda County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Highway Patrol, and Nevada Department of Transportation report several areas of US95 have damage caused from the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred this morning.

A preliminary magnitude 6.4 earthquake shook near Tonopah and Walker Lake in the Monte Cristo Range early Friday morning at 4:03 a.m. The large earthquake was felt in Carson City and throughout northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe.
