The first meeting of the year for the Carson City Republican Women's Club will be Tuesday, January 19 at Casino Fandango. The guest speaker will be Janet Freixas, President of the Nevada Federation of Republican Women.

Social hour begins at 11:00a.m. and the lunch meeting at 11:30a.m.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection announced Tuesday that it has received $1 million in Clean Water Act grant funds provided by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency that will be used to complete 11 projects to reduce “nonpoint source pollution” and improve water quality across the state.

Reno native Dawn Wells, who starred as Mary Ann in the popular 1960s sitcom “Gilligan’s Island,” died Wednesday of causes related to COVID-19 in Los Angeles, according to her publicist. She was 82.

Federal funds made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency have been awarded to jurisdictions in the state of Nevada for Phase 38. The eligible spending period for Phase 38 is January 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021. The following is a list of the awards for northern Nevada jurisdictions (counties) including Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Washoe.

The weather will transition to a more active pattern with periods of mountain snow, valley rain, and gusty winds later Friday through Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The Dayton Valley Golf Course has been acquired by Tour Specs Golf Management from Duncan Golf Management in a deal that was finalized this week. Two Mono County, Calif., residents were arrested Monday for suspected felony and misdemeanor offenses. Of the two, one was booked for suspicion four counts of being in possession of credit cards without the owner's consent, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

Help us feed Northern Nevada this season. The Happy Outlet's annual Happy Holiday Food Drive is our most successful event of the year. In 2019 we were able to help feed nearly 500 families. Our goal this year is to meet or exceed that.

The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is celebrating a Santa visit on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We are having Santa, via Zoom, into the Children’s Museum so that each child can talk and see Santa!

The Stewart Conservation Camp sits adjacent to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in the southeast corner of Carson City. Those serving time here are generally low risk, non-violent, held under minimum security and allowed to take on jobs like fighting wildfires and even training wild horses.
