NHP identifies rider in Thursday's fatal motorcycle crash on Kingsbury Grade at Lake Tahoe

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the victim in a fatal crash Thursday involving three motorcycles on State Route 207 Kingsbury Grade near Lake Tahoe in Douglas County.

NV Energy program would shut off power in Lake Tahoe area to reduce wildfire risk

In a program similar to PG&E and other electric utilities in California, NV Energy announced last week that it will implement its own plan that would shut off power to reduce wildfire risk in the Lake Tahoe area in the event of weather-related events such as strong, gusty winds.

Forest Service campgrounds at Lake Tahoe, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest open Friday

U.S. Forest Service campgrounds in the Lake Tahoe Basin, and on the California side of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will open to the public on Friday. Nevada group campsites and day use areas that hold less than 50 people will also reopen.

Strong winds Friday around northern Nevada region prompt fire weather concerns

UPDATE 11:14AM: The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon to 8 p.m. Friday for the following areas: Southern Mono County, Southern Sierra Front including Alpine, Northern Mono, Southern Lyon, and Western Mineral Counties, West Humboldt Basin in Pershing County and Lahontan Basin including Churchill and Eastern Mineral counties. The Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Mono County, Mineral and Southern Lyon counties, Hawthorne, Yerington, Smith Valley, Mina, Schurz, Fernley, Fallon, Lovelock, Silver Springs, Nixon, and Imlay. Carson City, and Carson Valley are not in the Wind Advisory area.

Report: Scientists say Lake Tahoe's famed water clarity shows alarming downturn

The UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center released findings Wednesday from its annual Lake Tahoe Clarity Report, which showed In 2019 the lake's famed clarity decreased nearly 8 feet from the previous year’s dramatic 10-foot improvement. The average annual value in 2019 was 62.7 feet. The lowest value was recorded in 2017, when clarity was 60 feet.

Fishing Report: Great fishing conditions across the board, more sites opening soon

Hello fellow anglers. I finally got out to do some serious fishing last weekend. Renee and I joined our friends Tom And Shelly Blotter at Bridgeport Reservoir.

The trip started out a little precarious. We arrived on Saturday afternoon to a steady 25 to 50 mph wind. Which kept us off the lake until Sunday.

Forest Service at Lake Tahoe takes steps to reduce human caused wildfires

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is enacting campfire restrictions to protect the health and safety of employees and communities, effective immediately and until further notice. Outside of developed campgrounds and certain permitted facilities, igniting, building, maintaining or using a fire on national forests in California will be prohibited.

Following a successful three-day operation in October, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service this week released more than 4,600 Lahontan cutthroat trout into Lake Tahoe, helping to restore the iconic species to its native waters.

Lahontan cutthroat trout are the largest inland cutthroat trout in the world and the only trout native to Lake Tahoe.

Fishing Report: Spring Fishing has begun, Lakes and Campgrounds beginning to open

Hello fellow anglers, welcome to Memorial weekend. As many of you know, Inyo County is closed to fishing until June 1st. But on May 22 the Mono County Board of Supervisors wrote a letter to the CDFW director Charles H Bonham, requesting the reopening of fishing season earlier then their previous request. As of May 23rd, Mono County is now open for the 2020 fishing season, right along Alpine County that opened on May 15th.

For those that will be getting out, Alpine County is open for fishing throughout the county.
