Carson City man arrested on illegal weapon charges
A 35-year-old Carson City ex-felon was arrested Thursday on suspicion of gross misdemeanor concealing and possessing a dangerous, illegal weapon.
The man was stopped for jaywalking across Long and Carson Street at around 6:30 p.m. He is known for prior felony entanglements with the law involving theft and drugs.
During a pat down for weapons, a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team officer observed what appeared to be a bicycle pump hanging out of his right pants pocket while speaking with the man.
The deputy removed the object from the man's pocket revealing a double edged-blade that ended in a pointed that had a metal flap with a spring on it. As the officer was looking at it, the man told the officer "don't push that." That's when the officer realized it was a spring activated knife that deploys a blade, illegal in most states, including Nevada.
The officer depressed the flap and the knife blade a launched out from the front of the knife, the arrest report states. The man was arrested at 6:37 p.m. and faces two gross misdemeanor charges: possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession of a concealed weapon. Bail: $5,000.
In other arrests: A 22-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 10:35 a.m. in the 900 block of South Roop Street on a misdemeanor warrant for allegedly making a false crime report.
According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the apartment address regarding a dispute between two roommates. A criminal background check revealed the confirmed warrant out of Carson City Justice Court issued May 5, 2014. Bail: $500.
