UPDATE 4:15PM: Firefighters continue to work Saturday afternoon on the fire at the Carson City landfill off Highway 50 East. The fire continues to belch out plumes of smoke, which are being carried by gusty winds. No word yet as to containment on the fire. Meanwhile, the cause of the fires on US-50 East near Arrowhead Drive and Drako Way, which were reportedly two separate fires that merged, remains under investigation at this time, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

UPDATE 10:17AM: Two additional fires are now reported at the Carson City landfill off Flint Drive. Firefighters that were preparing to leave the fire earlier on US-50 East are now responding to the latest incident. We will update as information becomes available.

The first fire is 15-by-15 feet in size and was extinguished. The second fire at the land fill was reportedly 200 feet-by-200 feet, according to Incident Command. The landfill is closed.

UPDATE: Carson City Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies responded Saturday morning to a pair of brush fires in the area of US-50 East near Arrowhead Drive and Drako Way.

The fire, reported at 9:07 a.m., was being fueled by gusty winds. Multiple firetrucks responded. There were two fires in the same area that were reported, with the fires apparently merging, according to firefighters on scene.

At 9:32 a.m. Incident Command reported forward progression stopped and have begun mop-up operations for hotspots. The fire is reported to be an acre. Incident command also called for a fire investigator to the scene. The fire is now 100 percent contained.

It is unknown at this time if structures burned or were threatened.

Eastbound Highway 50 was re-opened at 9:41 a.m. Motorists, however, can expect delays.
