All-SWAC recognition for Champlin, Taylor
"Athlete-speak" calls for all players to shrug off so-called snubs. But athletes are human beings, too, and the Western Nevada College baseball team may have some extra motivation going into Thursday's game against Salt Lake Community College.
Despite finishing ahead of the Bruins in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, Salt Lake had more representation on the all-SWAC first and second teams that were announced on Wednesday. The Bruins had five players on the first team while the Wildcats had just two. Salt Lake also had eight players on the first two teams to WNC's six.
So WNC could have something to prove when it plays Salt Lake at 4 p.m. Thursday in the SWAC postseason tournament in Henderson. Salt Lake advanced to meet WNC with a 10-1 win over Colorado Northwestern Community College on Wednesday. College of Southern Idaho defeated College of Eastern Utah, 10-3, in the other tournament game played on Wednesday.
